Quick answer: eBay seller coupons come in two kinds. The marketplace gives Store subscribers a quarterly coupon worth up to $150 toward eBay-branded shipping supplies, found under Subscriber Discounts in Seller Hub. Sellers can also create coded coupons for buyers from the Marketing tab, public or private, with a budget, minimum spend and expiry date you set.
Most searches for eBay seller coupons come from one of two people. One is a Store owner hunting for the shipping-supplies code that arrives every quarter. The other wants to hand buyers a discount code and is not sure what it will cost. This guide covers both, then shows the margin math that decides whether a coupon earns you money on a dropshipped item.
For the wider set of discount tools, our eBay listing promotions playbook compares every option in Discounts Manager.
The two kinds of eBay seller coupons
The word "coupon" covers tools that work in opposite directions. Some coupons save you money on your own costs. Others cost you margin in exchange for a sale. Mixing them up is why so many forum threads about seller coupons go in circles.
Ecomli, our product, is a non-API browser extension for eBay dropshippers, and the margin section below shows where it fits.
| Coupon | Who funds it | Who uses it | Where you find it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quarterly shipping-supplies coupon | eBay | You, on branded boxes, mailers and tape | Seller Hub, Subscriber Discounts |
| Public coded coupon | You | Any shopper who sees the code on search results, your listing or checkout | Seller Hub, Marketing tab, Discounts |
| Private coded coupon | You | Buyers you send the code to, or who find it in a parcel or on your social pages | Seller Hub, Marketing tab, Discounts |
| Marketplace-run sitewide coupon events | Set by each event's promotion terms | Shoppers buying from sellers listed as eligible | The marketplace's promotion pages, not your Discounts list |
Both coded coupon types need a Store subscription. If you are deciding whether a Store pays for itself, our guide to choosing a Store tier sets the monthly fee against what each level unlocks.
How to find your eBay quarterly coupon for shipping supplies
The Subscriber discounts page offers Store subscribers up to $150 off eBay-branded shipping supplies with a quarterly coupon. The amount depends on your Store level, so check the figure shown in your own account rather than a number from a forum post.
- Sign in and open Seller Hub.
- Open Subscriber Discounts. Sellers in the eBay Community shipping board report finding it under the Store tab or the Marketing tab, depending on their Seller Hub layout.
- Find the shipping supplies offer and select See details to view the code.
- Add eBay-branded supplies to your cart and apply the code at checkout before the quarter ends.
Plan one order per quarter around the coupon. If you dropship, your supplier usually packs the parcel, so the coupon is most useful for returns you repack, items you ship yourself and any branded inserts you send.
How to create a coupon on eBay for your buyers
The Seller Center page on coded coupons describes the setup in a few steps. A coupon lets you offer a discount without changing the item price, which keeps your listed price intact for shoppers who never use the code.
- Go to the Marketing tab in Seller Hub and select Discounts.
- Choose Coupon from the drop-down menu.
- Pick the discount type, such as a dollar amount or a percentage, and set the maximum budget.
- Choose public (shown in search and on listings) or private (shared by you).
- Add limits: minimum spend, maximum redemptions, maximum discount and an expiry date.
- Select the inventory the coupon covers and launch it.
The Seller Center examples include a code worth $5 off a buyer's next order and a buy one, get one at 20% off code. A dollar amount is easier to cost on cheap items, while a percentage scales on a mixed catalog. Choose the inventory carefully, because a store-wide coupon also lands on your lowest-margin listings.
How eBay coupons work for sellers at checkout
Knowing how a code is applied tells you what a coupon will really cost. These rules come from the same coded coupons page.
- Stacking: coded coupons do not combine with order discounts or volume pricing. They do stack with sale events, so a marked-down item can take a coupon on top.
- Offers come first: if an item has a Best Offer or a seller-initiated offer, the offer takes priority and the coupon cannot be applied.
- Budget cap: once the budget you set is reached, the discount is no longer shown to buyers.
- Redemption: buyers can get a private code by email or social media, but they redeem it at checkout. Codes shared on your own channels need visible terms and a link to the Buyer Terms and Conditions.
- Sending: you can send a coupon to a past buyer from the Seller Hub Orders page, print one into an order, or send codes in bulk to a buyer group.
The stacking rule matters most if you already run multi-buy tiers. A buyer gets volume pricing or the coupon, never both, so read our eBay volume pricing guide before you put both on the same listings. The offer rule matters if you send offers to watchers, because Seller Hub lets you attach a coupon for buyers who would not benefit from the offer itself.
Coupon margin math for eBay dropshippers
A coupon comes straight out of profit, so price it from your costs, not from your list price. The selling fees page sets the final value fee for most categories at 13.6% of the total amount of the sale, plus a per-order fee of $0.40 on orders over $10 ($0.30 at $10 or less). Store subscribers pay different rates in some categories, listed on the Store selling fees page.
Here is an illustration, not a quote from any real store. An item sells for $40 and costs $24 from the supplier, delivery included.
| Scenario | Buyer pays | Fee (worst case) | Supplier cost | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No coupon | $40 | $5.84 | $24 | $10.16 |
| $5 coupon | $35 | $5.84 | $24 | $5.16 |
| 15% coupon ($6) | $34 | $5.84 | $24 | $4.16 |
The worst case keeps the fee at $5.84, the figure on the full $40 price. If your invoice shows the fee on the lower total, you keep about $0.68 more on the $5 coupon. Either way, a $5 code cuts this sale's profit roughly in half. A coupon pays only if it brings in orders you would not have had: a second order from a past buyer, a watcher who converts or a slow item that finally moves.
A working rule: keep the coupon below half of your profit per sale, and leave out any listing where profit is already thin. Our eBay dropshipping profit margin breakdown shows how to find that profit figure for each item before you set a discount.
How to do this in Ecomli
Ecomli, our product, is a non-API browser extension for eBay dropshippers. It works through the eBay seller account already signed in to your desktop Chrome browser, so there is no API connection to authorize. You still create coupons in Seller Hub. Ecomli keeps the numbers underneath them honest.
- Build coupon room into the price. When Create Listings imports an Amazon or AliExpress product, it prices the listing with your markup. Set that markup high enough to absorb your usual coupon, and every new listing starts with room for it.
- Keep the floor when suppliers move. Stock Monitoring checks supplier stock and prices for your Ecomli listings and updates the eBay price with your pricing rules. If the supplier price rises while a two-week coupon runs, the listed price moves with it instead of leaving the code to push the sale under cost.
- Check whether the coupon paid. The Overview dashboard shows sales, fees, refunds, supplier costs and recorded profit by period, with previous-period comparisons. Compare the coupon weeks with the weeks before and keep only the codes that raised profit, not just orders.
For listings where supplier prices change often, our guide to repricing with a margin floor covers how price rules and discounts interact. You can see what each plan includes on the Ecomli pricing page, and how the automated tools fit together on the Ecomli platform overview.
eBay seller coupons: frequently asked questions
How do I find my eBay quarterly coupon?
Open Seller Hub and go to Subscriber Discounts, which sits under the Store or Marketing tab depending on your layout. Select See details on the eBay shipping supplies offer to view the code. You need an active eBay Store subscription, and eBay lists the coupon at up to $150 per quarter, depending on your Store level.
How do eBay coupons work for the seller?
You fund the discount on coded coupons you create. You set the budget, minimum spend, maximum redemptions and expiry, and eBay stops showing the coupon once the budget is used. The quarterly shipping-supplies coupon works the other way: eBay gives it to Store subscribers to spend on eBay-branded supplies.
Why is eBay adding coupons to my listing?
A public coupon you created shows on search results, your listing and checkout, so start with the Discounts dashboard in the Seller Hub Marketing tab. If the code is not in your list, your item is likely part of an eBay-run promotion, which follows the terms eBay publishes for that event.
Do eBay coupons work with Best Offer?
No. If an item has a Best Offer or a seller-initiated offer, the offer takes priority and the buyer cannot apply a coupon to it. Choose the discount you want buyers to use on each listing. Our Best Offer strategy guide covers when an offer is the better lever.
Can I create coupons without an eBay Store?
No. eBay places coded coupons in the Seller Hub Marketing tab for eBay Store subscribers. eBay's Store fees page lists monthly renewal at $7.95 for a Starter Store and $27.95 for a Basic Store. Without a Store, offers to watchers and your buyer messages remain your main ways to reach interested shoppers.
The bottom line
Claim the quarterly shipping-supplies coupon every quarter, because it costs you nothing. Treat the coupons you give buyers as a paid tool. Use them where a code wins an extra order, such as private codes for past buyers, a coupon on a slow item or a code added to an offer, and set the value from your profit per sale.
Ecomli's Stock Monitoring pricing rules hold your base price above supplier cost, and the Overview dashboard shows whether each coupon added profit. Ecomli's Auto Messages can handle the purchase, shipping and feedback messages around those orders, while the coupon itself stays in Seller Hub. Past buyers are the best audience for private codes, and our guide to turning first-time buyers into repeat customers covers when to send them.
