eBay Volume Pricing: Tiers, Margin Math and Setup (2026)

eBay Volume Pricing: Tiers, Margin Math and Setup (2026)

Quick answer: eBay volume pricing is a Seller Hub discount that lowers the per-unit price when a buyer orders 2, 3, or 4 or more of the same fixed-price listing. You set a percentage for each tier, eBay shows the savings on the listing and applies them at checkout. It works when your deepest tier still clears your margin floor after fees and supplier cost.

A buyer who adds a second phone case or a third pack of filters is the cheapest sale you will make all month, because you already paid to win the click. Volume pricing is how you ask for that extra unit. The part that needs care is setting tiers so deep that each added unit earns almost nothing.

This guide covers how eBay volume pricing works, how it differs from the newer bundle discounts and order discounts, the margin math for each tier on a supplier-priced listing, and a setup routine that keeps the numbers honest. It goes deeper on one promotion from our overview of eBay listing promotions, which compares all five Discounts Manager options. Ecomli is a non-API browser extension for eBay dropshippers that lists products from Amazon and AliExpress suppliers through the eBay seller account already signed in to your desktop Chrome browser, and later sections show where its pricing rules fit around a discount.

  • Three tiers, no gaps: eBay lets you set up to three tiers (2, 3 and 4+ units). You need at least one, and you cannot skip a tier.
  • Fixed price only: the listing must be fixed price with Buy It Now, and it needs a quantity above 1 for the option to show.
  • Best discount wins: volume pricing does not stack with coupons or order discounts. When several apply, the buyer gets the single best one.
  • Price the deepest tier first: on a $24.99 dropship item with a $12 supplier cost, a 15% fourth-unit tier still leaves about $6.25 per unit.

What is eBay volume pricing?

eBay volume pricing is a tiered quantity discount on a single multi-quantity listing. The buyer sees "Buy 2, save 5%" style messaging on the listing, picks a quantity, and the lower price applies automatically in the cart. You do not change the listed price, and buyers who want one unit still pay full price.

eBay's own example tiers are 5% off two, 10% off three and 15% off four or more, according to its Discounts Manager help page. Those are examples, and you choose the percentages. The tool sits in Seller Hub under Marketing, then Discounts, and eBay describes Discounts Manager as a tool for eBay Store subscribers, so check your plan in our guide to eBay Store subscriptions before you build a campaign around it.

A few rules from eBay's volume pricing instructions shape every setup:

  1. You can create up to three tiers and must fill at least one, with no gaps between them.
  2. A single-item setting limits the discount to multiple units of one item. Two variations of the same listing count as one item.
  3. To change tier percentages on a live discount, you pause it, copy it, edit the copy and launch the new one.
  4. A paused discount disappears from the listing and stops applying in the cart until you resume it.

One quirk catches new sellers. eBay's listing form only shows the volume pricing option once quantity is above 1, as Value Added Resource reported when sellers thought the feature had vanished. For variation listings, publish first and add volume pricing from Seller Hub.

Volume pricing vs bundle discounts vs order discounts

eBay now has three ways to reward bigger baskets, and they compete with each other on the same item. Pick one per listing on purpose, because the buyer only ever gets the best single seller discount.

DiscountWhat qualifiesTiersWhere you set itStacks with coupons?
Volume pricingSeveral units of the same listingUp to 3 (2, 3, 4+)Seller Hub, Marketing, DiscountsNo
Bundle discountsSeveral items, mixed or the same2, 3 and 4+ itemsActive listings, Add or Review DiscountsNo
Order discountsSpend or item-count threshold across listingsOne rule per offerSeller Hub, Marketing, DiscountsNo

eBay's bundle discounts page confirms that bundles do not combine with coupons, order discounts or volume pricing, and that the buyer gets whichever gives the best deal. It also explains what happens on a return: remaining items are repriced to the tier they still qualify for, and drop back to full price below the minimum.

The practical split looks like this. Use volume pricing on consumables and accessories people buy in multiples (filters, cables, cases, refills). Use bundle discounts when your store sells related items a buyer might mix. Use an order discount when you want a store-wide "spend $50, save $5" push.

Running all three on the same item mostly creates confusion in your reporting.

eBay volume pricing margin math for dropship listings

Sellers holding inventory often fund volume discounts from consolidated shipping, since four units travel in one box. A dropshipper usually cannot count on that, because each unit may ship from the supplier at its own delivery cost. Your discount comes straight out of margin, so model it before you launch.

Hypothetical example: a listing at $24.99 with free shipping, a supplier cost of $12.00 per unit including delivery, eBay's 13.6% final value fee for most categories and its $0.40 per-order fee on orders over $10, both from eBay's selling fees page. eBay also includes sales tax in the fee base, so real fees run a little higher than shown.

UnitsDiscountUnit priceOrder totalFinal value feeProfit per orderProfit per unit
10%$24.99$24.99$3.40$9.19$9.19
25%$23.74$47.48$6.46$16.62$8.31
310%$22.49$67.47$9.18$21.89$7.30
415%$21.24$84.96$11.55$25.01$6.25

Per unit, profit falls from $9.19 to $6.25 at the deepest tier. Per order, it rises from $9.19 to $25.01, and the second, third and fourth units are sales the buyer was not going to place as separate orders. That trade is the whole case for volume pricing.

The ceiling comes from your margin floor. Divide your floor plus supplier cost plus the per-unit share of the order fee by the price after the final value fee, and subtract the result from 1. With a $5 floor in this example, that is 1 minus ($5.00 + $12.00 + $0.10) divided by ($24.99 × 0.864), or roughly 20%. Any fourth-unit tier deeper than that sells below your floor.

If you also pay for Promoted Listings, subtract that ad rate as well, as our guide to profitable Promoted Listings campaigns shows.

This is where Ecomli helps. Because it works through your own signed-in eBay account, there is no API connection to authorize. Its Stock Monitoring feature keeps your eBay price in line with the supplier using your own markup rule and a price-change tolerance. When a supplier raises a cost, the listing price moves with it, so the margin you modeled for your deepest tier does not quietly disappear.

How to set eBay volume pricing tiers that hold up

Dependable tiers share three characteristics: small steps, a deepest tier you can afford on every listing in the campaign, and listings that actually have stock. A routine that works for most dropship stores:

  1. Group listings by margin. A campaign applies one set of percentages to every listing in it. Put high-margin accessories in one campaign and thin-margin items in another, or leave the thin ones out.
  2. Price the 4+ tier first. Run the floor formula above on the lowest-margin listing in the group. That sets your maximum, and the 2 and 3 tiers step down from it.
  3. Keep steps small. Steps of about five points (5%, 10%, 15%) are easy to read on the listing and leave room for a sale event later.
  4. Check quantity. The option only appears on multi-quantity listings, and a buyer cannot take a 4+ tier if you show 2 available. Our guide to eBay out-of-stock control covers how quantity settings protect sell-through.
  5. Exclude listings with Best Offer battles. A Best Offer takes priority over coupons, and haggling on top of a volume tier can push a sale below cost. See how Best Offer works on eBay before mixing them.
  6. Set an end date and review. eBay's Discounts dashboard reports base sales, discounted sales and sales lift, according to its volume pricing seller center page. Compare a few weeks before and after.

Variation listings deserve a note. Because two variations count as one item under the single-item setting, a buyer who picks two colors of the same case gets the tier. That is usually what you want, but check that every variation clears the floor, especially when supplier costs differ by color or size. Our guide to eBay variation listings covers pricing variations from one supplier page.

How to run eBay volume pricing with Ecomli

Volume pricing is an eBay feature, so you create the discount in Seller Hub. Ecomli handles the parts around it that decide whether the discount stays profitable. If you want to see how the pieces fit, the Ecomli platform overview lists every feature on one page.

  • Stock Monitoring: checks supplier stock and prices for your Ecomli listings and updates eBay price and quantity from your rules, including a restock quantity. That keeps multi-quantity listings eligible for tiers and stops a supplier price rise from eating the discount.
  • Overview dashboard: shows eBay sales, fees, Promoted Listings costs, refunds, supplier costs and recorded profit by day or period, with previous-period comparisons. Run a discount for a month and compare the period against the one before.
  • Product Hunting: filters Amazon and AliExpress supplier products by price, keywords and reviews, which helps you find low-cost consumables and accessories that buyers tend to order in multiples.

The workflow has four parts: pick products with Product Hunting, publish them, let Stock Monitoring hold your markup, then add the listings to a volume pricing campaign sized from your floor. If you want those pricing rules running on your own store, compare the Ecomli plans; every plan includes Stock Monitoring and the profit dashboard.

eBay volume pricing: frequently asked questions

How do I set up volume pricing on eBay?

In Seller Hub, open Marketing, choose Discounts, then Create a discount and select Volume pricing. Name it, set at least one tier, add listings by selection, item ID or SKU (up to 500) or by category rules, confirm the dates and launch. You can also add it while listing an item once quantity is above 1.

How do I add a bundle discount on eBay?

Bundle discounts are a separate tool. In Seller Hub go to Active listings, then Actions, then Add or Review Discounts, choose your percentages for 2, 3 and 4+ items and select listings. Bundles cover mixed items, while volume pricing covers several units of one listing.

Can volume pricing be combined with coupons or other discounts?

No. eBay says coupons do not stack with order discounts or volume pricing, and when several discounts run on one item the buyer gets the best one. A Best Offer or an offer to buyers takes priority over a coupon.

Does eBay charge a fee for volume pricing?

eBay's help pages list no fee for creating the discount. Your final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, so it is charged on the discounted total the buyer pays, plus the per-order fee for that order.

How can I lower the price of my eBay listing without a discount?

Edit the price on the listing in Seller Hub, or let a pricing rule such as the markup in Ecomli's Stock Monitoring adjust it from the supplier cost. Lowering the list price affects every buyer, while volume pricing only lowers the price for buyers who take more units, which protects your single-unit margin.

Why is the volume pricing option not showing on my listing?

The listing form shows the option only when quantity is above 1, and the listing must be fixed price with Buy It Now. For variation listings, publish first and add volume pricing from Seller Hub.

The bottom line

eBay volume pricing turns one-unit orders into two, three or four units at a small per-unit cost. For dropshippers, that cost comes straight from margin, so price the deepest tier from your floor, keep listings in stock with enough quantity, and run one seller discount per listing. Ecomli's Stock Monitoring keeps your markup in place when supplier prices move, and the Overview dashboard shows whether the discounted month earned more than the one before.
