Quick answer: To promote your eBay store, work at the store level rather than one listing at a time. Brand the storefront so buyers recognize it, collect followers and past buyers, email them through eBay's store campaigns, run store-wide discounts with a margin floor, and pay for Promoted Stores ads only once the store converts the traffic it already gets.
Most advice on how to promote your eBay store is really advice on promoting single listings: better titles, sharper photos, a Promoted Listings ad rate. Those matter, but a store is more than a pile of listings. It has a name, a following, a buyer history and a set of discount tools that only Store subscribers can use. This guide covers the store-level levers in the order that tends to pay back first, what each one costs, and where a dropshipper's margin can quietly disappear along the way.
- Promoted Stores is a cost-per-click ad for your whole store, available to sellers with an active Store subscription.
- Store email campaigns reach recent buyers and followers, with buyers protected from more than one email from you in any 14-day window.
- Discounts Manager tools (sale events, coupons, volume pricing, shipping and order discounts) need a Store subscription and fixed-price listings.
- Set a minimum margin before any discount or ad, because eBay's fees apply to the discounted sale and the ad fee comes on top.
How to promote your eBay store vs promoting a listing
Listing promotion tries to win one search. Store promotion tries to win the buyer, so the next search starts with your shop. The two work together, but they use different tools and they are measured differently.
When you promote a listing, the unit is the item: its title, its photos, its price and its ad rate. Our playbook for promoting a single eBay listing covers that side, including the free levers and the General campaign math. When you promote a store, the unit is the relationship: a buyer who saved you as a seller, a past customer who sees your sale in an email, or a shopper who clicked your store ad and browsed several categories instead of one item.
That shift changes what you track. Listing promotion is judged on clicks and sales per item. Store promotion is judged on store visits, new-to-store visitors, repeat orders and the share of sales that come from people who already know you. eBay's own Promoted Stores reporting reflects this: it reports store views and new-to-store visitors alongside clicks and ad fees, not just item sales.
Store promotion also leans on tools that a casual seller does not have. Discounts Manager, store email campaigns and Promoted Stores all sit behind an eBay Store subscription. If you are still deciding on a tier, our breakdown of eBay Store subscription tiers and when they pay off runs the fee math first, because the subscription is the entry ticket to most of what follows.
Step 1: Give buyers a store worth following
Every other lever sends people to your storefront, so fix the storefront before you pay to fill it. A buyer who lands on a store with no logo, a vague name and one long unsorted list of items has little reason to save you or come back.
Start with the parts eBay shows in your store ads and emails, because they double as your brand:
- Store name and logo. Promoted Stores ads display your store name and logo next to a headline and several of your listings, so a readable logo at small sizes earns its keep.
- Billboard image. The banner across the top of the store sets the theme. Our guide to eBay banner and billboard sizes lists the dimensions that display cleanly on desktop and mobile.
- Store categories. Buyers browse by category, and each Promoted Stores ad highlights one category or one public coupon. Clear category names give those ads somewhere sensible to land. Our walkthrough of eBay store categories shows how to structure them.
- About section and policies. Store emails can include an About Us section. Two or three plain sentences on what you sell and how you ship do more than a slogan.
- Consistent listing design. A buyer who opens three of your items should see the same layout, the same shipping block and the same return wording each time.
That last point is where many dropshippers fall down, because listings get built quickly from different supplier pages.
Ecomli is a non-API browser extension for eBay dropshippers. It works through the eBay seller account already signed in to your desktop Chrome browser, finds products on Amazon and AliExpress, and creates the eBay listings for you. Its Description templates give every listing it creates the same branded, mobile-friendly layout, with editable colors and store branding, so the store reads as one shop rather than a collection of copied pages. Templates apply to listings Ecomli creates or relists; they do not restyle older listings you built elsewhere.
Keep the shelves healthy too. A store full of items with no views for months looks abandoned to a returning buyer and gives a store ad weak listings to show. Our guide to eBay sell-through rate explains how to spot those dead items, and Ecomli's Auto Pruner (on Pro and Scale) ends listings that match your rules, such as zero views or zero sales over a set period, so the store keeps its best stock at the front.
Step 2: Build a buyer list you can email
The cheapest buyer is one who already bought from you. eBay gives Store sellers a way to reach those buyers again without breaking its rules on off-platform contact: store email campaigns, managed from Seller Hub.
Who receives store emails
eBay's store newsletter help page lists four predefined audiences:
- Most recent buyers, who bought in the last 30 days.
- Recent buyers, who bought 31 to 365 days ago.
- Followers, meaning people who saved you as a seller.
- All subscribers.
You can also build custom buyer groups, for example past customers who bought in a given category within the last year, or followers grouped by how long they have followed you and whether they have bought yet. That lets a seller with both phone accessories and kitchen gadgets send each group the sale that fits it.
What store emails can say
eBay offers six email templates covering sale events, volume pricing, coupon and order discounts, and general traffic back to the store. Promotional emails need an active discount behind them, so plan the email and the discount together. Campaigns can go out once or repeat every week, every 2 weeks or every 4 weeks, and the featured listings block can pick items automatically, such as new inventory or reduced prices, or you can choose them yourself.
Three limits shape how you use them. Buyers are protected from getting more than one email from you in a 14-day period, so a weekly schedule will not reach the same person every week. Emails cannot offer to sell outside eBay, include phone numbers or email addresses, or link to items that are not on eBay. And they cannot carry your own HTML or scripts, so the design work happens in the template, not in custom code.
How to grow followers
Followers come from buyers who save you as a seller, and that habit grows from good orders more than from requests. Fast, accurate shipping, tracking that works, and a short thank-you message after purchase all give a buyer a reason to come back. Our guide to winning repeat customers on eBay covers the order experience in detail.
For dropshippers, the after-sale messages are the part that slips when order volume rises. Ecomli's Auto Messages sends rule-based messages for purchase, shipping and feedback events, and it skips buyers with open issues or existing conversations. Keep those messages to order updates; the promotions belong in store emails, where eBay allows them.
Step 3: Run store-wide discounts that pay for themselves
Discounts give store emails something to announce and give Promoted Stores a coupon to advertise. eBay's Discounts Manager sits in the Marketing tab of Seller Hub, is open to eBay Store subscribers, and works on fixed-price listings. It offers five tools:
- Sale events. Percentage off, amount off, or a sale label on selected items or categories. After launch you can change the end date and name, but not the discount values.
- Coded coupons. A code you share, with optional budget, usage limits, minimum spend and expiry date. Sharing captions can run up to 280 characters.
- Volume pricing. Tiered discounts on multiple units of one item. eBay's example is 5% off two, 10% off three and 15% off four or more, across up to 500 items or SKUs.
- Shipping discounts. Free or reduced shipping for a set period or above a spend or quantity threshold.
- Order discounts. Deals tied to order size or spend, such as a percentage off an additional item.
Coupons can stack with sale events and shipping discounts but not with order discounts or volume pricing, and when several discounts apply to one item the buyer gets the best one. An accepted Best Offer or an offer you sent takes priority over a coupon. If you already send offers to interested shoppers, our guide to sending offers to watchers on eBay explains how those interact with store-wide deals.
Run the margin math before you launch
A discount reduces your sale price, and eBay's fees are then charged on that sale. In most US categories the final value fee is 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 on larger orders. Rates differ by category, so check the fee page for yours.
Take an illustration: an item that sells for $40.00 with a supplier cost of $24.00. At full price the final value fee is about $5.44 plus $0.40, leaving roughly $10.16 before any ad fee.
A 15% sale event drops the price to $34.00, the fee to about $4.62 plus $0.40, and the margin to about $4.98. The discount cut the unit margin roughly in half, so the sale needs to roughly double unit sales to break even on profit. Run that test for each discount tier before you pick one.
For dropshippers there is a second risk: the supplier price can rise while your sale is running. Ecomli's Stock Monitoring checks Amazon and AliExpress stock and prices for listings Ecomli manages and updates the eBay price and quantity using your markup rules, or ends an item that goes out of stock, so a promoted item does not keep selling below cost or after the supplier sells out. Our margin-safe guide to eBay listing promotions goes deeper on setting a discount floor.
Step 4: Promote your eBay store with paid and free traffic
Once the storefront, the buyer list and a discount are in place, it is worth sending new shoppers to the store. eBay sells one ad built for that, and several free channels can do part of the job.
Promoted Stores ads in eBay search
Promoted Stores is eBay's paid ad for the store as a whole, open to sellers with an active Store subscription. Each ad shows your store name, logo, a headline, several top-performing listings and a link to the store, and highlights either one store category or one public coupon. Ads can appear on the eBay home page, at the top of search results and on listing pages.
Pricing is cost per click. You set a target daily budget and pay only for clicks, priced through a second-price auction that weighs your bid, other sellers' bids, historical performance and a reserve price.
eBay caps monthly spend at 30.4 times the target daily budget, and on busy days spend can reach double the daily target. eBay's own example: a $10 target daily budget that starts on January 15 can spend at most $170 for the rest of that month. eBay now averages these budgets across the month rather than resetting them strictly each day.
You can let eBay handle targeting and bids with smart targeting, choose keywords and subcategories yourself with dynamic bids, or set both targeting and fixed bids manually. eBay flags a campaign as frequently out of budget if it runs dry 10% or more of the time over the last 7 days.
When Promoted Stores beats Promoted Listings
Promoted Listings advertises single items, and the General campaign charges a percentage of the sale. That suits a store whose sales come from a few strong products. Promoted Stores suits a store where buyers tend to browse: several related items, a coupon worth advertising, or categories that sell well together. Our guide to running profitable Promoted Listings campaigns covers the per-item side.
Whichever ad you run, judge it on profit, not on sales. Promoted Stores reports store views, new-to-store visitors, impressions, clicks, quantity sold, sales, ad fees and return on ad spend. Return on ad spend ignores your supplier cost, so a campaign can look healthy while losing money on every order.
Ecomli's Overview dashboard pulls eBay sales, fees, Promoted Listings costs, refunds and supplier costs into one profit view by day or period, which makes it easier to see whether advertising is adding profit or only adding orders. For other ad fees, compare eBay's ad report against that profit view.
If you want those numbers in one place before you spend on ads, compare Ecomli's plans and pick the one that covers your listing volume.
Free ways to promote your eBay store off eBay
Paid ads are optional. Plenty of store traffic can come from places that cost nothing but time, as long as every link points back to eBay. This is also the honest answer to how to promote an eBay listing for free: free promotion works best when it sends people to the store, where they can see more than one item.
- Share your store URL. Put it in your social bios, your email signature and any community profiles where your buyers spend time.
- Post category pages, not just items. A link to a store category, such as "phone stands," survives after one item sells out.
- Use short video. A short clip showing a product in use gives people a reason to tap through to the store.
- Answer questions where buyers ask them. Forums and groups reward helpful answers far more than link drops, and a store link in your profile does the rest.
- Time posts to your sales. Share the coupon or sale event you already set up in Discounts Manager, so off-eBay visitors land on a deal.
Keep the same rule eBay applies to store emails: do not offer to sell outside eBay. Off-eBay channels are for sending people to your eBay store, not for moving the sale elsewhere. Our dropshipping marketing guide for eBay sellers covers social posts and affiliate links in more depth.
eBay store marketing levers compared
The table sums up the store-level options covered above, with what each costs and what it needs before it works. Fees and eligibility are as of Oct 2026.
| Lever | Cost | Needs a Store subscription | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Storefront branding (logo, billboard, categories) | Time only | Yes | Turning visits into follows |
| Store email campaigns | Time only | Yes | Repeat orders from past buyers and followers |
| Sale events and coded coupons | The discount itself | Yes | Giving emails and ads an offer to announce |
| Volume pricing | The discount itself | Yes | Raising units per order on consumables |
| Promoted Stores | Cost per click, daily budget | Yes | New-to-store visitors who browse |
| Promoted Listings (General) | Percentage of the sale | No | Single strong products |
| Off-eBay sharing | Time only | No | Audiences you already reach |
A sensible order for a new store is branding first, then a follower and buyer list, then one discount you can afford, then emails announcing it, and only then Promoted Stores. Ads work best once the store converts the visitors it already gets. Search visibility still underpins all of it, so keep your titles in shape with our guide to keywords for eBay listings and Cassini search.
How to do this in Ecomli
Ecomli does not send store emails, create Discounts Manager promotions or run Promoted Stores campaigns; you set those up in Seller Hub. What it does is keep the store underneath them in shape, which is where store promotion usually breaks for dropshippers:
- Fill the store with fresh stock. Product Hunting finds products on Amazon and AliExpress, including by researching a competitor's sold history, and sends picks to Create Listings. New inventory is what the featured listings block in a store email can show.
- Keep the look consistent. Description templates give every listing Ecomli creates the same branded layout, so a buyer browsing from an ad or an email sees one shop.
- Protect the margin during promotions. Stock Monitoring updates price and quantity from supplier changes using your rules, so a sale does not run on a product that went up in cost or out of stock.
- Clear dead listings. Auto Pruner (Pro and Scale) ends items that match your no-views or no-sales rules, which keeps your strongest listings in front of returning buyers.
- Check the profit. The Overview dashboard shows sales, fees, Promoted Listings costs, refunds and supplier costs together, so you can tell whether a promotion paid.

Frequently asked questions
How do I attract more buyers to my eBay store?
Give buyers a reason to browse and return: a branded storefront with clear categories, competitive prices with a margin floor, a coupon or sale event, and store emails to past buyers and followers. Add Promoted Stores ads once the store converts the visitors it already gets.
How do I get my eBay items noticed?
Start with search: titles that match how buyers search, complete item specifics, clear photos and a fair price with shipping. Then add promotion, such as Promoted Listings for single strong items, Promoted Stores for the store as a whole, and discounts that eBay can show on the listing.
Can I promote my eBay store for free?
Yes. Storefront branding, store email campaigns and sharing your store URL on social media cost nothing but time, though email campaigns and Discounts Manager need an eBay Store subscription. Discounts cost you margin, and Promoted Stores charges per click.
What percentage does eBay take on a $500 sale?
In most US categories eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee on the total amount of the sale plus a $0.40 per-order fee, so a $500 sale costs about $68.40 in fees. Some categories use different rates, and ad fees are extra.
How do I get consistent sales on eBay?
Keep stock in supply, list new items regularly, end listings that have not sold in months, and build repeat buyers through good service and store emails. Consistency comes from a steady supply of fresh, in-stock listings more than from one-off promotions.
Do I need an eBay Store subscription to promote my store?
For eBay's own store tools, yes. Promoted Stores, Discounts Manager and store email campaigns are available to sellers with an active Store subscription. Sellers without one can still use Promoted Listings and share their listings off eBay.
The bottom line
Promoting an eBay store means building something buyers come back to: a recognizable storefront, a list of past buyers and followers, discounts you can afford, and ads that bring browsers rather than one-time clicks. Do them in that order and check the profit after each step. For dropshippers, the levers only pay when the store underneath holds up, which is where Ecomli's Stock Monitoring, Description templates and Overview dashboard do the work.
