Plenty of UK sellers pay for software they don't need yet. eBay's own label tool sits in Orders in Seller Hub or My eBay. You enter the parcel weight and size, pick a service, pay and print. Some services give you a scannable QR code instead, so you can drop the parcel off without a printer (eBay says QR codes aren't available for UPS and InPost, except InPost sent through Simple Delivery).

The carriers are Royal Mail and Parcelforce, plus Evri, Yodel, UPS, InPost and DPD through eBay Delivery powered by Packlink. eBay says every Packlink service is fully tracked and the tracking appears automatically in My eBay and Seller Hub for you and the buyer. The bulk label tool combines up to 200 orders at a time and can fit labels on one A4 sheet. Sendcloud

Sendcloud pulls new eBay orders in automatically and imports unfulfilled orders from the past 30 days when you connect. When you create a label, it updates the eBay order and sends the tracking number back so the buyer sees it on eBay. Royal Mail, Evri and InPost UK are among its carriers, and eBay orders can use its returns portal. Zenstores

Zenstores imports orders from all your eBay accounts, assigns carriers through shipping rules and writes the tracking number back to eBay as soon as the label is created, marking the order dispatched. Shipmate is built for UK and Republic of Ireland retailers. Dispatch time and tracking: what eBay measures

Whichever tool you pick, eBay judges the same two things. The first is dispatch time. eBay defines handling time as the time it takes you to hand the item to the delivery service after the buyer has paid, and it recommends a dispatch time of no more than 1 working day. Shorter only helps if you can hold it. You set it on each listing, your working day calendar defaults to Monday to Friday (you can add weekends), and you can set a same-day dispatch cut-off for each working day.

The second is tracking. Under eBay's seller performance standards, an order with tracking that eBay can verify on the carrier's website counts as late only when the delivery scan comes after the latest estimated delivery date and there was no carrier scan within your dispatch time. Without tracking, eBay asks the buyer when they leave feedback whether the item arrived on time. So valid tracking with a carrier scan inside your dispatch time keeps a slow delivery from counting as late, which a buyer's answer in feedback can't do.

The numbers matter at the top end. Top Rated status allows a late delivery rate of no more than 5 transactions or 3%. To show the eBay Premium Service badge, items over £20 must use tracked services only, with valid tracking uploaded within the dispatch time. When your supplier ships: dispatch without a label printer

If your supplier ships direct, label printing was never the bottleneck. The slow part is logging in to the supplier account, re-typing the buyer's address, paying, waiting for a tracking number and pasting it into eBay. Do that for 40 orders and the evening is gone.

Tracking is the harder half. A supplier's own tracking number doesn't always work as tracking on an eBay order, and eBay only counts tracking it can verify on a carrier's site. Your dispatch time also has to cover the supplier's processing, because the clock runs from the buyer's payment to the first carrier scan, whoever makes it.

How to set up dispatch and tracking in Ecomli
